The Education Welfare Service’s main task is to work with parents and children to support pupils’ regular school attendance and to reduce unnecessary absence and truancy.

The Education Welfare Service (EWS) works closely with schools and with other statutory and voluntary agencies to promote, encourage and enforce regular school attendance of children of compulsory school age who are resident in Blaenau Gwent.

If you are a pupil or parent and struggling with school attendance your school-based Education Welfare Officer will be able to help you. We are also able to support with elective home education, child employment and child performances.
